Ferdinand MagellanFerdinand Magellan a Portuguese explorer was born in Sabrosa, Portugal,1480 into a noble family and was the first to circumnavigate the world. As a boy studied navigation and mapmaking. He studied at Queen Leonora's school of pages and pored himself into textbooks on cartography, astronomy, celestial navigation all the things that will help him in later pursuits. He was the first to lead the expedition that sailed around the world. In 1519, with the support and help of King Charles I of Spain, Magellan set out for the circumnavigation of the globe. On the 27th of April, 1521 he was involved in a war with the Philippines and was killed by a poisoned arrow.

The following year after Magellan's death the remaining members of Magellan's crew with the help of Juan Sebastian they returned to Spain proving thus that the world was round , for people in those days believed that the world was not round but indeed flat and that if you go to far you would just fall off. It was actually the remaining members of Magellan's crew that actually completed the circumnavigation of the globe. Magellan's voyage was important because by knowing that the world is round but, not flat we would have multiple ways to reach a destination. And if something happened and they needed another way to get spices they could go west thought the Atlantic instead, of going east around Africa.
